French Press
There are many ways to brew the perfect cup of coffee. For those of
us on a budget the french press is one of the most cost effective
ways to get the most out of the brewing experiance. The key to using
a french press is the ratio of coffee to water, and timeing. To make
getting the timeing right our french press timer walks you through
the process of brewing the perfect cup of coffee each and every
time. All you need is a french press, 5 minutes, and your favorite
roast.
Step 1. Prepare your coffee
Start by grinding your beans. If you are grinding at home you should
aim for a consistent coarse grind. I like to grind my beans while I
heat the water. For best results use fresh ground coffee, but if you
don't have a grinder your local retailer should be able to set their
grinder to a coarse, or french press setting.
We should be using a ratio of 1 part coffee to 12 parts water. If possible, the best option for obtaining this ratio is by using a digital scale. For one liter of water this means we need approximatly 84 grams of coffee, if you are measuring without a digital scale this is aproximatly 16 tablespoons of ground coffee. When the water is at a rolling boil pour it into the french press and add the prepared coffee. At this point click the start brewing button to bloom the coffee for 30 seconds.
